Sometimes referred to as wet blasting, vapor honing, dustless blasting, or liquid honing, it is a surface refinishing technique utilized for restoring metal surfaces. It is quickly becoming the number one choice for cleaning and resurfacing applications. First developed in the 1940’s in Britain during World War II, vapor honing consists of a slurry of water, compressed air, abrasives, and detergents to refinish the surface of the metal. The technique results in a satin-like surface that looks almost as good as new. Unlike the dry abrasive media used for sandblasting, vapor blasting consists of water, compressed air, and fine and gentle media to clean and resurface a number of surfaces, usually environmentally friendly glass bead. Vapor blasting works well for stainless steels, mild steels, aluminum, brass, and bronze metals alike. Dry blasting, by contrast, is an aggressive method, and can be quite damaging on some applications. Vapor honing cleans by FLOW vs. Impact and is much more gentle on gasket mating surfaces and vintage motorcycle parts.
My name is Daniel. I work in the motorcycle / powersports business. I got my first job in the industry in 2004. In addition, I live and breathe motorcycles. I started a business in 2010 called MPLS Cycle Co., LLC dealing in hard to find, vintage Harley-Davidson parts. I stepped back and did the business on a very part time basis as I went to work in a few BIG local multiline motorcycle shops. Fast forward to 2020 and I acquired two vapor blasting rigs and started doing that on a hobby basis, focusing on motorcycle parts. I've also got access to a short run / prototyping machine shop. I'm a very AMATEUR machinist. I'm always looking for other makers to collaborate with. In my personal life, I live in South Minneapolis with my brilliant wife and daughter. Need parts for your project? Hit me up. I'd love to help you out!
Let's chat about your project! I'd love to collaborate on it with you. I'm mostly thinking motorcycles, BUT, the sky is the limit. I'll blast anything. Hot Rod parts, motocross parts, boat parts, old tools, antiques etc.

Vapor blasting is not a cleaning process. It is the final step of a refinishing process. I do offer additional add-on services, such as, hot / aqueous parts washing, solvent parts washing and dry blasting. I can manually remove all grease, oil, grime and silicone gasket material. There is an extra hourly charge for this in addition to price of vapor honing or blasting OR you are welcome to clean beforehand but, parts must be ready to blast and free from any contaminants. Carbon buildup in combustion chambers can be removed with vapor blasting.,
Yes and no. If the finish you are trying to remove isn't great, I can usually remove it. Factory, baked on powdercoat finishes are a little more difficult and should be dry blasted first. Extra charges for dry blasting will apply in addition to vapor blasting.
No, I do have size limitations and vapor blasting is best on alloy parts- and I would dry blast steel frames and cast iron engine blocks. But, I still may be able to help you out. Shoot me an email.
